What Is Hidden Under the True Las Vegas Lifestyle?

What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas is a familiar catchphrase that many people use whenever they set foot in the famed Sin City. Of course, whenever Las Vegas comes to mind, we all think about The Strip in all its glory, where there are tons of activities to enjoy – from sightseeing to dining, and the most popular of all is gambling.

However, the natives of Vegas and the state of Nevada at large would agree that this is a far cry from all there is to know about one of the world’s largest gambling Meccas. Besides the magnificent hotels and 15,000 miles of neon lights, Sin City has facilities similar to the ones you’d find in any other major city in the world. These include places where you can go shopping, watch movies, go hiking and so on. The key difference of being in Vegas only comes with the increased likelihood of bumping into an Elvis having a cup of coffee or sharing an Uber with a showgirl.

That being said, residing in Sin City also comes with downsides. In the summer, for instance, you are better off playing Vegas online slots because of the high temperatures. So, before you pack up your luggage for the Silver State, as Nevada is popularly known, here’s a quick rundown of what you should consider:

Top Disadvantages of Living in Las Vegas

Let’s start with some of the characteristics of Nevada that make it not so attractive:

  • Lingering heat of the summer

The summer months in the Silver State can be harsh, typically reporting temperatures higher than 1000F. Despite the fact most of the months are somewhat pleasant, a lot of locals frequently complain about Las Vegas’s dry heat. Given that it’s positioned within a desert, being there in summer often feels like living in a hot oven.

  • Nonstop gambling

True to its name, Sin City is well-known for its evils or rather what some may consider a vice. Las Vegas has a 24/7 entertainment economy, meaning that access to gambling, indulging in alcohol and recreational drugs, among other recipes of the so-called fast life, can easily consume you. It’s not news that the lives of quite a lot of individuals have spun out of control in Sin City. Without self-control, living in Las Vegas can turn your life upside down in no time.

  • Finding work is easier said than done

Never move to Las Vegas if you don’t have a job lined up for you already. Of course, the city can be great for getting a job, especially in the hospitality industry. However, individuals having established careers in fields like finance and business might find it hard to get consistent work. What is more, the available hospitality jobs don’t exactly pay well, seeing as the competition for them is stiff. Before rushing there to look for opportunities, just know that you aren’t the first person to have that idea.

  • Having a car is a requirement

In the United States, a lot of cities have an efficient local public transport system that will effortlessly cover your basic traveling requirements. For Vegas, things are different, and having a personal car is vital if you’ll be moving around. Although the buses there are useful, you can’t compare them with the efficiency of other states.

Sin City is Still a Great Place to Be Overall

The downsides aside, living in Las Vegas also comes with a lot of perks, which include:

  • There’s no state income tax; thus, if you like saving money, then moving to Las Vegas could be a great option.
  • Loads of world-class recreational activities, including plentiful opportunities for hiking, boating, rock climbing, mountain biking, camping, and so on.
  • You can always find something to do in Las Vegas as the city never sleeps. Apart from the three hottest months of the year, Sin City enjoys more than 300 days of sunshine annually, a standard yearly temperature of about 800F and lower humidity to enjoy.

Parting Shot

As you can see, if you want to relocate to Las Vegas, there are a lot of things you must consider, it isn’t a good idea to wake up and just decide that you’re moving there. The odds won’t necessarily swing in your favor as they do countless times in movies. If you are going there for recreation, on the other hand, just don’t do it in summer and make sure you arrange for personal transport, and you’ll have a blast!
