“THE BOONIES is a silly yet fun journey through a night of peril and adventure,” wrote Movies For Reel. “What’s respectable about THE BOONIES is its commitment to its purpose. The movie doesn’t have to be polished or perfect to effectively communicate its deep-seated themes about friendship and camaraderie.”
From award-winner writer/director Brad T. Gottfred (The Movie Hero), THE BOONIES follows five high school seniors – former childhood best friends – who are united by a dead classmate’s cryptic video directing them to embark on a million-dollar treasure hunt inside Boone High School. Through clues given by former classmate, Doug (Calum Worthy), Teddy (Cody Ko), Holly (Andi Matichak), Chuck (Kyle Jones), Stephanie (Lauren Elizabeth) and Elektra (Amymarie Gaertner) must abide by three rules to succeed:
- Rule #1: Stick together.
- Rule #2: No dying.
- Rule #3: Confess your greatest secret.
Along the way, the Boonies must out run the Cheerleader clique, the Outcast clique, and the Silver Skull gang. Will the five frenemies be able to come together long enough to solve the riddle, become millionaires, and learn the reason behind Doug’s demise?
“That’s part of the film’s charm and the group being able to stick together despite the antics of the others, it helps you understand how, 8 or so years ago, they were a tight group. One that, like so many friendships, didn’t seem to survive high school and puberty,” continued Wherever-I-Look.
Will the group survive their last Boonie adventure? Find out for yourself with the trailer here:
